Multipolar Radio Frequency Handle

Monopolar

Monopolar RF is a valuable modality to tighten skin and contour mild-to-moderate facial laxity. It works by concentrating the body’s collagen fibres, which leads to immediate skin tightening and a gradual reduction in cellulite over time.

Unlike bipolar RF which has two electrodes quite close to each other, the monopolar device only needs one active pole on the skin surface and can penetrate much deeper into the ULT ultrasonic handle (3.0MM) tissue. This is important for skin-tightening because the energy from the monopolar RF can reach into the middle and the deep skin layers, including the fascias and fibrous septae which are responsible for the majority of our skin’s elasticity and tightness.

The monopolar RF is also known to be more effective than the bipolar RF for fat reduction as it is able to heat up the deep dermis which is where our fat cells are located. This causes an immediate contraction of the fat cells and the surrounding fascias which results in a rapid visible result that is maintained for 4-6 months.

The newest generation of monopolar RF devices are equipped with pulsed cryogen cooling that is both more comfortable and safer. They also feature a new electrode that is more evenly distributed over the skin. This makes it possible to treat the lower part of the face without any discomfort or pain and with a significant clinical effect. A comparison between the monopolar and bipolar treatment methods was made using non-invasive biophysical measurements such as TEWL and the measurement of the stratum corneum barrier function (tewametry).

Bipolar

Bipolar RF devices have two active electrodes close together, making it easier to distribute energy in the skin. However, the current can only penetrate a fraction of the distance between the electrodes, so it can only heat the dermis to an extent. This is why it is usually used for skin tightening, which can be effective for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The addition of RF microneedling can boost the results and lead to more significant results, especially when treating larger areas of tissue.

The researchers analyzed the effects of monopolar and bipolar radiofrequency electromagnetic field treatment on facial skin tone and density by measuring epidermal hydration (corneometry) and stratum corneum barrier function (tewametry) in women from five age groups over a four-month period. They found that monopolar and bipolar radiofrequency electromagnetic field treatments significantly improved facial skin tone and density, with improvements that persisted in the selected age groups after four months of therapy.

The authors also studied the electromagnetic patterns of RF energy passing through the non-insulated microneedle electrodes and their effect on tissue reactions. The researchers discovered that RF energy passes through the bipolar and monopolar electrodes in a similar way, but they differed in their penetration depths and RF signal amplitudes. They also performed in vivo skin reactions on a micropig and ex vivo bovine liver tissue studies, as well as high-speed cinematographs of the RF interactions.

Tripolar

Unlike Monopolar and Bipolar radio frequency systems, Tripolar technology uses three electrodes to transmit energy. This enables energy to be highly focused and targeted to the areas that need it most. It can be used to treat the forehead (tightens brows and lifts skin), eyes (eyebrow lifting, tightens pores), cheeks (lifts and firms), neck (diminishes jowls and sagging along the jaw line and reduces double chin) and body (arms, knees and hips).

The selective heating of Tripolar RF energy stimulates the production of collagen and elastin which promotes skin tightening. It also accelerates natural fat metabolism processes and forces the release of liquid fat from fat cells. The treatment is painless and very relaxing. It is a great option for enhancing the results of other treatments like dermal fillers, IPL photofacials and light peels.

There are very few specific treatment contraindications for Tripolar RF, and your aesthetic professional will be able to confirm your suitability for this procedure after taking a brief medical history. However, the most important thing to remember is that a regular program of treatments is required to achieve the best results. Treatments should be spaced at one week intervals to allow time for collagen production and fat metabolism to take effect. It is also important to drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol or caffeine in the days leading up to your treatment sessions.

Multipolar

The Multipolar Radio Frequency Handle emits RF currents, pulsing through 4 electrodes that are spread out over the treatment area. The electromagnetic energy is transformed into heat that is evenly distributed within the skin tissue. This causes the contraction of existing collagen 1 fibers and stimulates production of new collagen. This results in firmer, tighter, and more toned skin. It also reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines as well as dilated pores.

This type of RF skin-tightening treatments is a great option for clients who want to avoid surgery, as it ULT ultrasonic handle (3.0MM) can provide significant anti-aging effects and improve the overall texture of the skin. The Apollo Duet also has the added benefit of using the electroporation + iontophoresis function to add hydration into patients’ skin tissues, prior to a radio frequency treatment. This significantly increases the effectiveness of the RF treatment and provides better anti-aging results.

During a Multipolar Radio frequency treatment, the heating of deep skin tissue stimulates collagen fibers and fibroblast cells to create new collagen over time. This results in firmer, tighter skin that has a visible lift. This is a noninvasive, no-needle procedure with a comfortable and relaxing feeling for the client.

Fractionated Multipolar Radiofrequency is a method of using RF energy to stimulate collagen in the skin and reduce the appearance of stretch marks, cellulite, acne scarring, and wrinkles. This is achieved by creating numerous temporary micro-injuries in the skin with the high-frequency currents between the multiple poles of a treatment applicator, rather than one constant source as in mono/bipolar RF treatments.
